Vision Statements
Purpose

For several reasons, communities develop a Vision Statement at the beginning of the planning process. The Vision Statement(s) acts
  • as a guide for the rest of the plan
  • helps to keep the process on track
  • provides a hook upon which to hang ideas and information
  • sets the framework for more meaningful questions

Without a Vision Statement, identifying issues and creating goals and objectives are often unconnected to anything meaningful. After compiling and reviewing the data received from the community at large through the multiply Visioning Workshops and an online Visioning Questionnaire, we opted to craft 10 separate, but interrelated, Vision Statements: one universal Vision Statement summarizing the town as a whole, and nine Vision Statements encompassing various community-related elements. The following Vision Statements are in final form, and were reviewed and adopted by Town Council at its June meeting.

  1. Universal Vision Statement
  2. Local Economy Vision Statement
  3. Affordable Housing Vision Statement
  4. Land Use Vision Statement
  5. Community Character Vision Statement
  6. Open Space & Recreation Vision Statement
  7. Transportation & Parking Vision Statement
  8. Environment Vision Statement
  9. Community Facilities Vision Statement
  10. Responsive Governance Vision Statement
