The Adventure Rock, situated in Conference Center Plaza, is a mainstay of our free summer activities. For those looking to test their strength, this man-made boulder offers various problems for the novice to expert climber.
Competition Series
There is a men's division, women’s division and under-12 boy and girl's divisions. Prizes are awarded to first, second and third place winners. The Competition Series will continue throughout the summer with finals scheduled for Wednesday, August 25. At that event, the winner in each category with the most points earned throughout the Series will be awarded a grand prize. Prize sponsors include BootDoctors and Dakine. Novice and expert climbers are encouraged to register the day of the event. Competitors will be allowed to climb as many problems in the two-hour period. Competition dates include June 16, July 7, July 28, and August 25 (the finals).
Adventure Rock Rules
Free of charge and open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Please follow these basic rules for your health and safety.
- You must have read and signed a waiver in order to participate in bouldering.
- Bouldering is a personal choice and requires person responsibility as well as adequate skills, training and conditioning.
- Bouldering and associated activities are dangerous and can result in injury and/or death.
- Use of this facility is at your own risk.
- Risks are not eliminated by training or skill.
- Bouldering in pairs and spotting each other at all times is strongly recommended.
- Never climb above or below another boulderer.
- Children must not use the facility without continuous parental supervision.
Bouldering Tips
- Always warm up and stretch before you start climbing.
- Find rest opportunities to help extend your endurance.
- Learn from your partner.
- Think ahead to the next move.
- Use your legs to hold your weight, not your arms. Use arms for balance and shifting weight, not holding weight.
- Watch your center of gravity. Use only the degree of strength on your grip as necessary to steady your balance. Keeping your body close to the wall keeps your center of balance over your center of mass, and relieves pressure on your grip.
